I have decided to do an assessment at the library at CSUN on each floors excluding the 1st floor to see how effective students are using their time....I will observe to see whether they are sleeping, chatting or ACTUALLY working at the cubicle sections.
Unfortunately, I could not get the statistcs yet, BUT...I will be observing between 2-4PM today and take advantage of the time away from class...hopefully that's all that matters.
I think that this is an interesting idea, to actually know what people are doing when they say that they are going to study in the library. It is a topic that can point out that even though we all go to school to succeed but what lengths do we actually want to go to between classes and our long breaks.
ReplyDeletePretty interesting topic, and I'm very excited to see where your design ends up! You gathering the statistics really makes the study personal, as I often times are afraid the percentages and research can be a bit overwhelming. If you find yourself not being able to gather much data, possibly try extending your time-I'm wondering if 2 hours is enough time to collect data, considering students aren't crammed in the library studying and worrying about midterms/finals (traffic might be slightly lower and considerably less impressionable in numbers). Best of luck on your collection!
ReplyDeleteI can tell right away that that won't be enough time to collect the data. There are tons of people at the library, all of whom are doing different things! It won't be easy, but if you take the time to carefully collect the data, it would be a fun graphic to see. I would like to see who's doing what in the library considering I don't go there too often unless I really have to.
ReplyDeleteagreed. tough topic and not enough time to make a credible infographic from. But perhaps you can research student study habits online or perhaps the idea of multitasking and compare that to the idea of multitasking from 15 years ago. i can almost guarantee you will find some interesting ideas there...
ReplyDeleteAlright then, looks like I'll just forget about my assessment and find already existing studies and go from there then, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic, I always wonder if i'm the only one NOT using my time wisely haha it'll be cool to see just how many are actually doing school related activities. You might need some help gathering data though, can't wait to see the outcome!
